Math and Additional Info
Checklist for Phase 3:
Make sure that your project (PowerPoint, Prezi, Weebly, video, etc.) includes the following:
-Where are you going to stop?
You should include a map of your planned route from Philadelphia to Hollywood, including all stops. Make sure that you have found the distance between each pair of cities, as well as the total distance for your trip. Include an explanation of how you found the distance in miles using the map of the United States provided and ratios or proportions (all work must be organized and embedded in your final project). Determine approximately how long will it take you to make the trip between each pair of cities, keeping in mind that each stretch of driving should be reasonable (you can't drive 1000 miles in one day!)
-Which sites do you want to see?
You should include information about each site, including what you want to see, how long you will spend in each city, and how much it will cost to do the sightseeing that you are planning.
-Which car did you decide on and why?
You should write a system of equations to represent the cost of each car based on its initial price and the cost of driving per mile. (Find the cost per mile using the mpg and the total distance of your trip). Solve this system and represent your solution in two ways. Explain your decision.
-How much will your trip cost?
Include the price of driving (car and gas - use $2.50/gallon), and cost of any sites you plan on seeing along the way.
-Possible "road blocks"
What could happen that would cause your trip to not go exactly as planned? Did you make any assumption that might not be true?
-Additional Expenses
What else might you have to pay for on your trip, besides the cost of driving and site seeing along the way.
EXTENSION:
-Include information about hotels that you might stay in along the way and how much they might cost.
